Customers sometimes come in the shop and ask us how to create a beautiful home that doesn’t look artificial. At Warmth Company we like spaces with depth and character to them. We believe a home filled with special treasures and items collected over time has more “soul” than a space straight from a catalog. In this series, we are going to talk about different ways to add soul to your home so that you can create a warm, welcoming and beautiful environment for yourself!
Our first post is on using throws, pillow and quilts. After eight years of owning Warmth Company, I’m still amazed at how much we can change the look of the shop just by rearranging pillows and throws. Whenever you want a refresh, the same thing can easily be done at home.
I am a big fan of fabric. I also get bored really fast. However, I am just like most people and can’t afford to change everything in my house all the time. Luckily, that’s where throws, pillows and quilts come in. These are inexpensive accents that can quickly give the whole house a new look!
This is a sofa in my husband’s office that I was sick of. My house used to be decorated in gold tones, but lately I’ve wanted something fresh. I simply added a Pendleton blanket- now I am in love with it again!
This bench was once a burgundy plaid and was in desperate need of an update. I always say “Every room needs a little leopard!”
I have colorful quilts and pillows all over my house. They can be moved seasonally or as my mood changes. It’s such a simple way to change the feel of a room.
A patterned quilt at the end of the bed adds comfy layers and a fun pop of color.
The TV room can be pretty dark and gloomy. My husband spends a lot of time in there so I didn’t want to make it too girly, but just a touch of pink lightens it all up!
Don’t be afraid to layer several pillows on chairs- it isn’t too much! Throw pillows give a sense of warmth to a space and keep it from looking too stark or formal.
One of my favorite things to do is throw a quilt over sofas and chairs. They are easy to take off and wash if you have pets, plus you get the added bonus of color and depth to your space!
Also, I think it is totally okay to mix floral fabrics. This gives off an “I didn’t try too hard” look.
At Warmth Company, we offer a wide selection of throws and pillows, but I know that sometimes it’s hard to find that perfect one. I love to mix and match, this sofa has pillows collected from many places. Aside from our store, there are several places around the area that have beautiful options: Tancredi & Morgan in Carmel Valley, Patine in La Selva Beach, Anthropologie and the Alameda Flea Market are just a few fun places that I like to explore!
So don’t be afraid to look around, find some fun patterns and freshen up your home!
